Belinda Hartmann is the director of IP at UniQuest, meaning she is responsible for managing all of the registered IP rights originating from the University of Queensland (UQ). She is a Trans-Tasman patent attorney with biological sciences expertise, having completed a PhD in Bioengineering, a BSc(Hons1) in Biochemistry, and a BBioTech. Prior to accepting the in-house role at UniQuest, Belinda worked in 2 of Australia’s largest private IP firms, as well as a boutique law firm and a start-up (“New Law”) firm. During her time in the private sector, Belinda was listed in IAM Patent 1000’s as one of Australia Top 50 patent prosecutors, and she now appears in MIP’s list of Corporate IP stars. At UniQuest, she now works closely with UQ researchers, UniQuest staff, commercial partners, licensees and investors in their efforts to identify, protect and commercialise the valuable IP that originates from UQ. Currently, Belinda is also serving on the Trans-Tasman Intellectual Property Attorney Board (TTIPAB), which is the regulatory body overseeing the Trade Marks and Patent Attorney professions in Australia and New Zealand.
