Peter Toto is senior vice president, intellectual property at Sony Corporation of America, where he has worked since 1993. He leads the US team handling Sony’s IP matters, including licensing, litigation, transactions, patent portfolio development, and standards. He represents Sony in organisations including Open Invention Network, RPX, and various patent pools and joint licensing programmes. Working with colleagues in Japan and worldwide, he supports strategic alliances and initiatives to procure, develop, and monetise IP assets. Before joining Sony, Peter was an associate at Pennie & Edmonds focused on patent litigation. He earned a BSEE from Lafayette College and a JD, with distinction, from Hofstra University School of Law, where he was a member of the Law Review. He is admitted to the NY, NJ, Federal Circuit, and USPTO bars and is recognised as one of the leading IP strategists in IAM Strategy 300.
