Richard Vary is a partner in the intellectual property group of the law firm Bird & Bird and is based in London. He is also co-head of the firm’s global patent practice. Richard specialises in technology patents and international litigation and arbitration. He has worked on many of the highest profile litigations in this area in the last few years. Before joining Bird & Bird he was vice president and head of litigation at Nokia, where he managed global commercial litigation and was part of the legal and compliance leadership team. This mostly involved mobile telecoms patent litigation and arbitration all around the world, and he had a very successful track record in global patent litigation strategy. Richard is also a part-time District Judge in the London and South East circuit, and in the Intellectual Property Enterprise Court in the UK.
