Will Cheng is a senior patent counsel at LinkedIn. Will draws from prior patent examiner, law firm, and in-house experience to bring a uniquely comprehensive perspective towards creatively solving complex intellectual property issues. Will is responsible for shaping LinkedIn’s global patent portfolio and leading patent harvesting and patent preparation efforts across all business and technology divisions of LinkedIn. Will is also a staunch supporter of DEI patent initiatives and leads LinkedIn’s inventor diversity programme. Before LinkedIn, Will was a senior intellectual property counsel at Lyft, where he excelled in patent harvesting, patent preparation and prosecution, and intellectual property licensing. Will has extensive experience in open source and was lead IP adviser on Lyft’s open source team evaluating complex inbound and outbound open source matters. Will is an avid surfer and a member of the Surfrider Foundation’s Legal Issues Team providing pro bono legal services to protect our oceans and beaches.
