Paul Fehlner has more than 30 years’ experience in life sciences, particularly intellectual property. He is chief IP counsel at Spyre Therapeutics. Previously he was the chief legal officer for Axcella Therapeutics and co-founded reVision Therapeutics, which repurposes drugs into high-impact, affordable ophthalmic therapeutics. Before that, Dr Fehlner was global head of IP for Novartis Pharma. Before Novartis, Dr Fehlner practiced IP law with several law firms, notably as a partner and life sciences IP practice group leader at Baker Botts and partner at Darby & Darby, and earlier served as biotechnology patent counsel for Rhône-Poulenc Rorer. He has been named to the IAM Strategy 300 World’s Leading Patent Professionals multiple times. He earned a JD from Fordham University School of Law, a PhD in immunology and biochemistry from Rockefeller University (Lois P Markey Fellow), and a BS from Haverford College (high honors; Phi Beta Kappa).
