Joo Sup Kim is currently a corporate adviser at LX Hausys. He is a civil member of Presidential Council on IP. He is also the present president of LES Korea. He also worked at LX MDI as corporate IP adviser in 2025. He worked as corporate adviser at LX Semicon R&D from 2022 to 2024. Dr Kim worked as corporate adviser at legal department at LG Uplus in 2021. Dr Kim served as chief presiding administrative Judge at IPTAB in KIPO from 2017 to 2020. Just before this position, he was vice president at LG Electronics, Inc. (LGE) and involved in litigation, licensing, negotiation, counseling, open source and copyrights. Dr Kim joined IPTAB in 2017 after spending several decades at LGE and other LG affiliates such as Goldstar, LG Electron, and LG Display. Dr Kim’s career in the IP industry spans more than 40 years, with extensive experience in IP litigation, licensing, numerous strategic IP transactions, M&A transactions and alliances at LGE, LG affiliates, and LX affiliates. He has been involved in more than 400 licensing cases and experienced more than 60 trials worldwide covering a vast number of technologies, including telecommunications, consumer electronics, liquid crystal displays, organic light-emitting diodes and semiconductors. In 2009, Dr Kim formed Global OLED Technology LLC having more than two thousand OLED patents worldwide. He was guest professor at KAIST`s IP masters programme from 2010 to 2012. In 2017, he became guest professor of IP School of Nanjing University of Science and Technology. In 2015 IAM listed Dr Kim among the Top 40 Market Makers and in 2015 and 2017 listed as a leading IP strategist in the IAM300. Dr Kim received a PhD in law from Kookmin University in Korea, a masters in IP law from the Franklin Pierce Law Centre and a bachelors in electronics engineering from Hanyang University in Korea.
