Mr Thompson has more than 30 years of experience counseling and litigating complex patent, trade secret, and trademark matters, with a particular focus on standard essential patents and advanced communications technologies. Mr Thompson regularly represents multinational corporations and Fortune 100 companies in high-stakes disputes and licensing involving standard essential patents across cellular, WiFi, and video coding standards, as well as cellular-enabled devices and Internet of Things technologies. He has led litigation teams in matters resulting in more than $100m in recoveries and has first-chaired cases before the International Trade Commission, US district courts, and the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. His practice also includes global patent portfolio strategy, IP-intensive transactions, and cross-border disputes.
