Richard Ji has extensive experience in IP related matters including patent licensing, litigation, and acquisition. In his years with Xiaomi, he has concluded multiple deals amounting to millions of dollars. After graduating from college, he joined home appliance maker Haier where he started dealing with patent licensing related affairs. Then he worked for a patent agency as a patent attorney for a couple of years. In 2013, he joined the start-up IP monetisation company Zhigu, which was acquired by Xiaomi later to form the IP strategy team.
