Speaker Bio
Wayne Stacy is the executive director of the Berkeley Center for Law & Technology at UC Berkeley School of Law, where he co-leads the school's work at the intersection of law and AI education. This fall he is teaching AI and the practice of law, a full three-credit, experiential course developed after extensive consultation with law firms and in-house legal departments, in which students use AI for real legal projects spanning research, writing, contract analysis, and structured brainstorming. He brings experience from every side of the profession: 20+ years as a big law intellectual property partner (IP chair at Baker Botts' San Francisco office and an equity partner at Cooley LLP), regional director of the USPTO's West Coast office, and two decades teaching IP law as an adjunct at four law schools. Chambers, Intellectual Asset Management (IAM), and Super Lawyers have recognised him as one of the country's top patent litigators and IP strategists, and the National Law Journal named him an ‘IP Trailblazer’. He was named to the IAM Strategy 300 for 2025 and is a Fulbright Specialist with a specialty in education and AI law.
