JP Hong is vice president of business development of Qualcomm Technology Licensing (QTL), a division of Qualcomm Incorporated. QTL shares breakthrough inventions through global patent licensing programmes and enables technology partners to deliver compelling products that transform consumers’ lives. In this role, JP is responsible for licensing Qualcomm’s patents to entities in North America and Europe. Before joining Qualcomm, JP spent 10 years in private practice at top rated US law firms focusing on patent litigation and prosecution, and over ten years at Samsung Electronics managing IP strategy and risks for semiconductor and consumer product business units. As vice president at the IP center of Samsung, he handled hundreds of patent disputes and licenses in all areas of IP. In that capacity, JP directed litigation and settlement strategy in all cases involved, including successfully negotiating many high-profile cases to conclusion, worked closely with business management regarding strategic decisions, and led significant acquisitions of patent assets for future technologies and strengthening organic patent portfolios. JP holds a BA in physics and Government from Bowdoin College, and a JD from Boson College Law School.
